Old Perithia, which was abandoned in the past, has become a tourist attraction, through the restoration of properties and the existing traditional tavern serving traditional Corfiot dishes.
ABOUT OLD PERITHIA
Old Perithia was considered to be a “ghost-village” in the past, since its inhabitants abandoned it in the 1960s. The village was built so that it cannot be seen easily in order to be protected from pirate attacks.
The restoration projects that have begun recently led to the development of the village in terms of tourism and nowadays there are many holidaymakers who seek the seclusion and peaceful moments that Old Perithia has to offer.
Most of the houses of Old Perithia, which were constructed at this unique place near Mt. Pantokratoras, the highest mountain of Corfu, date back to the 14th century. Being set in idyllic scenery, with dense vegetation, the views to the Corfiot and Albanian coastline from the mountain are totally breathtaking.
You are recommended to wander the former ghost village of Old Perithia and be amazed by the magnificent mansions made of stone which still boast features of distinct decoration.
