Visit Old Sinies
An abandoned village being set on the hills of Mountain Pantokrator, Old Sinies is situated about 40km away from Corfu’s center and about 10km away from the seaside resort of Kassiopi.
ABOUT OLD SINIES
The best route to approach this incredibly quaint place is by driving to the summit of Mt. Pantokrator and heading down to the village. This will make you enjoy the best views from mountaintop and explore the stunning natural environment of the area.
In the village of Old Sinies there are still the remains of some buildings and houses dating back to the 17th century, since the inhabitants abandoned it in order to head to certain places that have been developed and become great tourist destinations, such as the neighboring area of Nissaki.
The village was constructed in that way so that it cannot be easily seen, similarly to other areas of the region, like Old Perithia, since inhabitants were aiming to protect themselves and their properties from pirate attacks.
While wandering this village, you will be surrounded by stone buildings, whose most parts have been covered with dense vegetation. Plus, you will find an old church, featuring paintings depicting Saints.
